Composite decks are known for not being maintenance free. In fact many have issues with attracting mold and mildew. In general a composite deck should be cleaned 2-3 times a year to remove the black mold spots. When cleaning it is best to use a wood deck cleaner that contains sodium percarbonate as the active ingredient. This chemical is a registered EPA product for mold and mildew removal.
