Any questions regarding Brick Paver Restoration?

What are the benefits to sealing pavers? Will it protect them?

The main reason that people seal their pavers is to create an enhanced "wet" look. This will deepen the colors and add a satin to semi gloss shine.
It will also protect the pavers from spills, oils and the degrading effects of the sun.

How is the best way to clean and a seal brick paver driveway. I have about 2100sq/ft

Cleaning depends on what you are trying to remove. If it is just minor dirt, then just use a garden hose nozzle to rinse.
If your joints are full of weeds and moss then a pressure washer may be needed to clean.
Chemicals are not usually needed unless you are trying to remove a spill such as oil. Type of cleaner will depend on what you are trying to remove.
Sealing Brick Pavers can be accomplished by either spraying with a heavy duty sprayer (http://www.opwdecks.com/chapin.htm) or by rolling. The negative to rolling is that you need to be extremely careful that you do not pull out the sand that is in the joints with the roller cover. This will cause sand to be stuck on top of the paver bricks.
When using a roller cover we suggest one that is more of a sponge type rather then a nap type.
One other additional note:
Make sure that your sand is not level with the top of the pavers. It should be at least a 1/4-1/2" lower.

I want to protect my brick pavers but I do not want to add a wet look. Do you have any suggestions?

SuperSeal-M is a non gloss water repellent that will protect any cement or pavers from unwanted stains, freeze/thaw damage, and salt damage. This product will not leave any sheen or enhanced look.

Hello Scott,

We are very pleased with your product, Super Sealer
30. As your site said, it only took one coat and the
homeowner was very happy with the wet look your sealer
provides. We have used other sealers, but none compare
to yours. What a difference! Yours is the only gloss
sealer we will offer from now on.

But I did come back two weeks later to check on a deck
we did to see how it was holding up and we noticed
that there is one small patio area (about an 8 x 10)
that is tucked under the home's roof that opens out to
the pool deck. In this area, some of the pavers look
a little hazy or cloudy. There is a rug covering
about 60% of the area with some light patio chairs. I
thought maybe the moisture from the rug may have
collected here, but the haziness on the pavers is not
consistent with the shape of the rug. It is almost
random. And it is hard to tell if this cloudy look is
"under" the sealer or "in" the sealer. Not all of the
pavers have it, but there are enough of them that I
told the homeowner that I would see what I could do
about it. Also, this area is a high traffic area as
it is the main entrance leading from inside the home
out to the pool area.

When we cleaned the deck, we gave it a week to dry,
resanded it and then sealed it. Except for this small
area, everything else came out perfect.

Any ideas or suggestions? Can the sealer be removed
with Xylene or laquer thinner and then reapplied? Do
you sell a haze remover?
Thanks Scott, I appreciate any help or suggestions.

The 4 things that cause White Haze:

1. Moisture trapped under sealer. This can be remedied by spraying on xylene or aromatic solvent. It should go away immediately.

2. Build up of many coats of sealer. Can be remedied with xylene but will probably come back.

3. Application of our sealer over a cheap previous sealer. You will need to strip everything.

4. Efflorescence. White chalk that is prevalent on new pavers. Usually sealed in and cannot be fixed without stripping the entire job.

SuperSeal is a styrene acrylic that will not turn white by itself. Something else needs it to cause it to turn white.

Xylene is not a stripper but an emulsifier that will help fix a lot of problems. If you need to remove you will need to us a methylene chloride based stripper and we cannot ship it due to HazMat.

What do you guys recomend for sealing concrete without changing the color or giving a slippery surface? I clean and seal brick pavers now but I will be getting into concrete as well. Thanks for the info! http://www.paverprotector.com

We offer two products that would fit your needs.

Creto DPS is a permanent solution that internally stops damage from water and wear. This product is a one time application. It will not bead water though.

SuperSeal-M is a 2-3 year product that surface beads water, oils, stain, etc.
